In March 2008, I finally got tired of having my stuff all over the house. I decided to move everything into the garage, and turn it into a gamearage.
I started with the task of moving a lot of junk stored in the garage out to my storage space in Bolingbrook.
Once the space was cleared, I painted the walls and ceiling plain white. Tapped the heating duct to bring climate control to the room. (Yes I know that's not to code. I'll have to undo that before I move.)
Next came carpet squares. I got refurbished tiles on line for $0.35 a square foot at Focus Floors. This worked out well to cover the uneven floor. The tiles are rubber backed, and insulate the concrete well.
Next came electrical work. I have 2 20 amp circuits divided between 3 groups of sockets.
Then came the job of moving everything. From the basement, the dining room, the workshop. Took the opportunities to clean rust off the legs, change out the legs to the correct type, and new leg levelers all around.
Since the garage floor actually has a slight pitch for drainage, leveling the games proved interesting. Games on the side wall have the "down" side levelers run out farther, so the game is level. Games on the back wall are straddling the tire stop ledge. so the front legs are run out farther than the back legs to get a proper pitch.
I still have one more thing to do. The storage shelves are still on one wall. These I will hide with a canvas drop wall hung from the ceiling. This will give the illusion of a wall, and still give me the ability to get behind easily, to access stuff.
